A Stream of Consciousness into Self-Actualization
The seven-thirty AM traffic to work enables my unconscious
thoughts to come to light. The world around me is foggy
and the cars proceed with caution. I have one hour to arrive
at work and 20 miles to go. My mind cannot help but wander
back to a question I had heard in a series, ‘Why are you?’
I asses. How would I begin to answer why I am. Why
would I be if it weren’t for my parents? Why would I be
if it weren’t for the combination of experiences that made me?
Why would I be if it weren’t for the thoughts that were programmed
into me—into you? Why would I be? Why am I? Why are you? I reflect
meticulously behind the red lights of a braked car. I am here
within this specific space and time, you are there reading, listening, concentrating
on what I am trying to say / to feel. Feel— I am here to feel. I am succumbing,
much like you, to the trends that dominate our experience. Experience--
I am here to experience. I want to share with you my existence. Share--
I am here to share the things I dare not say. Dare— I am here to dare
express these emotions of existentialism across a world that exists
for the sole purpose of going forward. I am here, much like you, feeling,
experiencing, sharing, daring to question. I am like you, a reflection,
a subconscious mind projecting onto you my narrative, a jumbled entity.
We are the same within the core, yet I cannot adhere to the mechanics
this world has set for me and you. To be here is to break the system.
